Cheers

When I first... laid my eye
on the Royal Doulton mug
I said to my self,

gotta have it.
"Oh no you don't,"
said the Mrs.

reading my mind.
"It will break into a thousand
pieces.

There's absolutely
no room for it
in our valises.

And the price," she said
dropping her monocle,
"is astronomical!"

Usually, the mug
sits on the shelf.
It's held many a brew I assure you.

Just last night the Mrs. and I
imbibed from it wishing each other
good health.

  2. Cheers! You must have a really interesting house. I imagine one of those places where you just walk around looking at the walls and shelves, full of unusual pieces! No need for chairs, I'd be busy perusing!

  3. That's really good. Ah, married life.

  4. The poem definitely goes with the mug. I love the way this poem narrates a story. The mug is definitley unusual as your drawing so aptly shows.

  5. What a wonderful preview of marriage life Doug ^^ thanks for the heads-up, but I could already imagine myself collecting junk...ermmm....STUFF, and my wife-to-be will be like "okay now where are you gonna put these?"
Lovely sketch, fun, and actually kinda freaky ^^ but still fun!

  6. Fun sketch and story! "gotta have it. Oh no you don't!" that cracked me up, and the face on the mug, too! Great work!

  7. And to your health as well, Tammy.

Yes, Raena. It is a fun house.
Lots to see, to touch; to reflect
    on. Those little "treasures" and
hand me downs-the stuff of memory-
all reflections of our own souls
which give our homes a unique
    soul of their own.

Hi Freebird. Ah yes, married life.
    Nothing like it, right?

    Thank you Evolving Artist.
Hope you haven't come across any
of those rattlers you so artfully
    portrayed on your blog.

Adine. I'm so pleased that you
liked my drawing. It's one of my
    favorite beer mugs.

    Thanks mucho for the compliment,
    Ramona. Considering that the poem
    was written after having consumed
a substantial amount of beer from
said mug, I'm surprised that it
    made any sense at all.

So nice to see you again, Alex.
You hit it right on the head,
fun and freaky. Glad you liked
    my sketch.

I'm sure that you're future wife
will not scoff at your future "stuff."
My wife is extremely organized too,
    while I am fairly chaotic.
Yet the "tension of the opposites"
can often lead to the birth of a third
    and better thing. No?

    Thanks for stopping by kazumi.
That my work can result in smiles
and a laugh or two is nice to hear.
